1. Who is responsible?
AUTOMATA – Jan-Michael Waiser. The postal address and all other details can be found in the Legal notice. Questions about data protection: office@automata.at.
2. At a glance
- No sign-up, no customer account (unless you buy Premium).
- No cookies for advertising or statistics, no advertising ID, no tracking, no analytics services.
- Your list, receipts, spending, brands and location are stored only in the storage of your browser or your app.
- Fonts and program components come from our own server, not from Google or others.
3. What our server processes
Accessing the app and website
When you access them, your device transmits technically necessary data (IP address, time, page accessed, browser). Our hosting provider stores this data briefly in server logs to ensure operation and security. To protect against misuse (e.g. mass queries), we record the IP address and time for certain features; these entries are deleted after about one day.
Price comparison
When you tap “Compare prices”, the app sends your items (name, quantity, brand if applicable) and – if selected – your location (coordinates or postal code) and the search radius to our server. The server calculates the totals for each shop and sends them back. The list and the location are not stored in the process. We only count how many comparisons there are per day – without any link to you.
Location
Your device only determines your location if you allow it (“Find my location”). Instead, you can enter a postal code or compare without any location at all. The branch data comes from OpenStreetMap. If you tap “Route”, Google Maps opens – Google’s privacy policy applies to this.
Speaking your shopping list
Speech recognition is performed by your browser or your phone – usually Google for Chrome and Android, and Apple for Safari and iPhone. Their privacy policies apply. gspart only receives the recognised text, i.e. your shopping list – no audio recording. The microphone is only used while you are speaking, and only if you allow it.
Photos of lists and receipts
Text recognition runs directly on your phone. The app then sends the recognised text (items, prices, date, shop) to our server, which analyses and assigns it. The photo and the text are not stored on the server. The result – your spending – stays on your phone.
Enhanced recognition: So that handwriting and difficult receipts can also be read, the photo may be sent to our AI service provider Anthropic PBC (USA) for reading. Anthropic processes it on our behalf solely to read the text. The transfer to the USA is based on the European Commission’s adequacy decision for companies certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or on standard contractual clauses. For this reason, only photograph the receipt or list and nothing else.
Advertising
Users of the free version see an advertisement for 10 seconds before the result. The image or video comes from our server. For each advertisement we only count how often it was shown and tapped – without any link to you. There is no advertising ID and no disclosure to advertising networks. If you tap the advertisement, the advertiser’s website opens; the advertiser’s privacy policy applies there.
Premium (without ads)
If you buy Premium, we store your email address, the selected plan, the subscription status including its term, your customer and subscription numbers at Stripe, the time of your consent to the immediate start, and an encrypted checksum for each registered device. To sign in on an additional device, we send you a code by email. Payment is processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., Ireland); only Stripe receives your payment details, not us. We store the data for as long as the subscription runs and thereafter for as long as required by law (accounting records 7 years, § 132 BAO).
Emails to us
If you write to us, we use your details only to answer your enquiry.
4. What is stored on your phone
Your shopping list, last comparison, receipts and spending, learned brands, location setting, font size and – for Premium – a sign-in key are kept in the storage of your browser (or of the installed app). So that the app also starts when reception in the shop is poor, it additionally stores its program files on the device. We have no access to this. Under Profile → “Your data” you can download a backup (“Back up”) or select “Delete everything on this device”; you can also do this via your browser settings (“Clear website data”).
5. Who receives data
- Hostinger International Ltd. (Cyprus) – operates our server in the EU (processor).
- Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd. (Ireland) – only for Premium, for payment.
- Anthropic PBC (USA) – only for enhanced recognition of photos (processor).
- For speech recognition, Google or Apple as the provider of your browser or operating system.
We do not sell any data and do not pass it on for advertising purposes.
6. Legal bases
- Price comparison, receipt analysis and Premium: contract or your request (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Server logs, protection against misuse and counting of advertisements: our legitimate interest in secure, financially sustainable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
- Location and microphone: your consent via your device’s permission prompt (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can withdraw it at any time in your device settings.
- Retention of accounting records: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
7. Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Simply write to us at office@automata.at. You can also lodge a complaint with the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at).
